Cheese Straws

Location: Wolverhampton
Era: 1940 onwards


  • 3oz of cheese, grated
  • 4oz self-raising flour
  • Salt, pepper, cayenne to taste
  • 2oz Stork margarine
  • 1 egg

Sieve the flour and seasoning together.

Cut margarine into squares and rub into the flour mixture until it reaches a crumble consistency, add the cheese and stir together.

Add the egg and mix to a stuff paste with a knife.

Form the dough into a ball with your fingertips, leaving the sides of the bowl clean.

Roll out onto a lightly floured board to ¼ inch thickness.

Cut as desired.

Bake in a moderate oven for 15-20 minutes.
